Access to His Presence

The other day a worship team member was talking about the tabernacle in the Old Testament. They mentioned how the Holy of Holies was behind the veil and only one priest could enter once a year, but when they did, they could behold the glory of God. As this person was talking, the thought struck me, “We’re there right now!”

Ephesians 2:6 tells us we are seated with Christ in heavenly places. The book of Hebrews tells us we’ve been given entrance to the Holy of Holies (the very presence of God) because of the blood of Jesus. Since that briefing I’ve been thinking how amazing it is that every believer on the face of the earth has what only one person, once a year, had in the Old Covenant – access to the heart and beauty of God.

Today, whether through meditating on the throne of God, or fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us, or just talking with Him about this amazing truth, I want to remember where I live and Who it is that has made a way for me to approach Him.

Hebrews 10:19-22 ~

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Choosing Daily To Believe

We do not have to live at the mercy of our fears and emotions. Anxieties and emotions will ebb and flow, but it is possible to live in such a way that we begin to believe the truth that God loves us and that what He says is more true than our thoughts and emotions.

Some practical ways to do this:

Fill our minds and hearts with the truth of God’s Word (John 17:17) ~

Let His Word, the Bible, be the definition of truth rather than your thoughts/emotions. Find verses that contain TRUTH about who God is and how He sees you/feels about you as one who believes in Him. Memorize them! Sing them! Pray them!

Take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) ~

When our minds are filled with anxious thoughts or accusations against God or others, we can choose to replace those thoughts with truth and renounce the things that are lies or have no basis in reality.

Set your mind on things above (Colossians 3:1) ~

I like to specifically think about (meditate on) what God is like. Choose a passage such as Revelation 4 or Psalm 145 and speak back to Him (prayer) who He is and what He is like. Doing this especially when I want to dwell on my own fears, failures, or worries is so helpful to get my focus back on Him!

Fight the fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12) ~

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that we must come to God believing that He IS and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. We have to actively CHOOSE to believe, often before we feel it, that God is Who He says He is, and that He truly feels towards us the way the Word describes He does.

Over time, as we choose daily to believe, we will see transformation! Our thoughts and emotions will begin to respond to the truth of God’s Word. Don’t give up!
